We’re building an inclusive company for all people of color

We recognize that diverse organizations don’t just happen – they’re built through purposeful hiring practices, community programs and workplace support. At BMO, we’re committed to supporting our customers, our colleagues and the broader community to combat racial injustice and eliminate barriers faced by people of color.

We educate our employees through anti-racist training
With ongoing training for all employees, we’re committed to creating an inclusive workplace. All employees receive our Learn from Difference training to build an inclusive workplace, and our leadership team members receive additional unconscious bias training. To further support anti-racist education, our BMO U digital learning platform offers a course on taking action against racism.

We offer resource groups for racialized employees
Our Enterprise Resource Groups (ERGs) carve out dedicated space at work for employees who identify as POC to discuss their unique needs and to foster an inclusive workplace. Our ERGs include the Black Professionals Network and the Latino Alliance Network.

We recently donated $1 million to organizations across North America that fight for social and racial justice, including the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the Equal Justice Initiative and the Greater Twin Cities United Way.

We partner with HBCUs and HSIs to hire diverse talent
By working closely with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), we aim to increase the representation of Black and Hispanic students to better support our racialized employees. We’ve partnered with Morehouse, Spelman, Howard, Dominican University and the University of Illinois Chicago to build a more diverse team.

We invest in the communities we serve
It’s important that we give back to the communities where we work and live. In 2020 BMO proudly donated $10 million to support the Chicago Mayor’s Economic Development Plan with United Way’s Neighborhood Network, which mainly services Black and Hispanic communities in the city.
